New York State Senator Jesse Hamilton hosted a posh pre-Chanukah bash at an upscale location in the Crown Heights area of Brooklyn.
The party was organized in conjunction with the young professional Jewish community of Crown Heights to mingle and chat over an all-Kosher lavish spread prepared by Levi Feigenson of Table One Catering.
A Klezmer Band led by Jake Shulman-Men and Raul Rothblatt entertained as participants met with Hamilton, New York City Council members David Greenfield and Chaim Deutsch, and judges Michael Gerstein and Lorna McAllister.
Greenfield was praised for his lobbying work to pass a bill for the City to fund security guards for nonpublic schools, as reported on COLlive.com. Crown Heights schools will be included in that program led by the Orthodox Union (OU).
Crown Heights community activist Yaacov Behrman welcomed participants and emceed the event which was coordinated by a committee that included Jacob Eisdorfer, Mendy Margolin, Mendy Pershin and Yankee Pearson.
At one point, Pearson landed a trendy iKippah on Senator Hamilton’s head to promote the company founded by his sister. Hamilton later switched his head covering with a more traditional black yarmulke with an untraditional name embroidered on it in Hebrew – “Jesse.”
The party was a chance for Hamilton to recognize residents for their involvement in developing the community and the local economy. He awarded proclamations to brothers Sam Lang and Nathan Lang, Yossi Rapoport and his Constituent Liaison Reuven Lipkind.
But more importantly, Hamilton and his guests got to enjoy Jewish food. The menu included cream of kabocha and cream of shitake soups and a carving station offering steak portiere, black pepper pastrami, slow cooked brisket and London broil with horseradish sauce.
In a recent newsletter sent out to the community, Hamilton shared his love and the recipe for “Kosher Roast Beef,” recommending to serve it with “latkes or Yerushalmi kugel.”
Latkes weren’t seen at the party, but waiters did pass around assorted mini donuts in preparation for the holiday celebrated with foods traditionally deep-fried in oil.
We eagerly await the recipe to those, Mr. Hamilton, in future issues of your newsletter.
We where a little concerned till we got to pic #9
Langs are always involved in good things:)
There are several women visible in the photos. Not sure what you’re suggesting.
Thank you Yaakov Berman from putting this important event together where the community can get to know our representatives and share in friendship and in advocating for Crown Heights as a whole.
Thank you Jesse Hamilton for the great work that you do; you are a Senator for ALL the people period.
I guess only men are “young professionals”?
