Rabbi Chaim Meyer Lustig, long-time resident of Crown Heights and the oldest member of the Agudah Shul on Crown Street, passed away Monday, 1 Av, at the age of 82.
After escaping Europe in 1938, he arrived with his parents in the US at the age of 10.
He married his wife Itu (shetichye), and they settled in Chicago until 1956, when they moved to Crown Heights in order to send their son to the Lubavitcher Yeshiva on Bedford and Dean.
Rabbi Lustig was a beloved educator for many years, teaching in many different dayschools and Talmud Torahs in Manhattan and Queens, where he had an impact on many non-religious children.
His wife, Itu, recently retired as the head of the Crown Heights Bikur Cholim, which she ran for many years.
He is survived by his wife, and children Rabbi Hershel Lustig, principal of Oholei Torah and two daughters: ZC Lustig of Boro Park and Esther Elgrabley of Flatbush.
He is also survived by siblings: Reb Yankel Lustig (Cincinatti), Sander Lustig (Boro Park), Dina Shenker (Flatbush) and Chaykie Weiss (Flatbush).
The levaya will take place Tuesday, leaving from Shomrei Hadas at 10:00 am, passing by 770 at 10:45 am.
Shiva will take place at his home at 360 Crown St.
