If Crown Heights doesn’t offer everything to everyone, I did want to point out the one thing that is offered to the young boys that wish to play with their friends on Friday afternoon.
As the boys get older, their time of Fridays will be used for Mivtzoim – but until then, they get to enjoy their time playing with friends in a nice Jewish atmosphere with an older game leader.
The game includes valuable lessons on how to play together as well as deal with a call that doesn’t go their way, something some have difficulties with.
This past Friday I witnessed one of the nicer, more refreshing sights in the course of a week in Crown Heights. On Friday afternoon my son was invited to join a baseball game in Rochester Park organized by Mrs. Devorah Krasnianski, filled with close to 80 kids starting at age 8 or so.
Having grown up in Crown Heights myself, (though I don’t currently live there) I can remember when an organized baseball game coming from anyone other than the kids themselves might be considered like disconnecting from Judaism (Chas V’sholom) for the short while. However, while I was watched for a few short minutes, it was a pleasure to see all these wonderful yiddishe children from chasidishe homes, being afforded the opportunity to play ball like proud Jewish children.
And for that I am very appreciative.

great idea!!!
but it doesn’t have to stop when they become 13
from my experience of playing baseball every Friday in lefferts park as a kid and bochur, friday is long enough for both mivtzoim and baseball

Tyere Ziser Kinder k.a.h.!
Thanks to Devorie Krasnianski for arranging this for so many years.
Good luck to them. They looked as if they were having such a great time. Boys (and girls) need to unwind and” let off steam”. great idea to have it at the end of a week of sitting down to school work.
GO MELLY CHEIN!!
What’s happened to the neighborhood?
go MENDEL KELLER!!!!!!!!!
