Fast Facts from the My Encounter with the Rebbe project
The campaign to save 1,000 interviews for the My Encounter with the Rebbe oral history project is in full swing, with people around the world donating and promoting the project.
To date, 366 people of diverse backgrounds have been interviewed about their encounters with the Rebbe. But there’s still so much more to learn!
Some items discovered from past testimonies are the Rebbe’s involvement in: The launch of the USDA’s WIC program
The US Sixth fleet’s establishing a base in Haifa, Israel
Young Israel’s campus Kosher Clubs
Underground work with the Mossad in Moscow
Foretelling stem cell research
Extraterrestrial exploration
A view on the Hippie movement
A US State Department letter to the Soviets
The interviews are not just done in the US in English. The My Encounter team travels to locations around the world to document these stories.
Thanks to the leads provided by viewers from far and wide, JEM currently has a list of over 400 critical ‘Tier One’ interviewees that must be conducted. But they need your help in making sure these testimonies don’t get lost!
Some people wonder about the costs of an interview. “All you need to do is get a video camera and set up an interview. Why so much?” But running a project of this scale and quality is quite ambitious. To do a high quality project, befitting the Rebbe’s stature taken time, forethought, and financial investment.
Until Gimmel Tammuz this year, a generous sponsor has pledged to match each dollar raised. Instead of costing $1,500 for an interview, an interview can be funded for $750. You can even choose to have someone specific interviewed – such as your parents, grandparents or someone you know of!
Please get involved at 1000Encounters.com. Do it for yourself, for your children, and for all of Klal Yisroel.
wow now thats alot of books!!!!
The interviews are always beautiful, the lighting is always just right, the colours always look great.

Very very true!
The thing is that JEM doesnt have the money to go around interviewing every lubavicher that is over 40 or so… so, let them know that you have some “stories” and sponsor the interview as well! It’s prob the best $750 investment you’ll make..
Most “ordinary” lubavitchers have their stories with the Rebbe and even if they don’t seem “dramatic”, they’re still precious and inspirational and should be recorded. please contact JEM and ask them if you can be interviewed!
My family sponsored my grandfather’s interview and it was really amazing.
