May 9th marks the 65th anniversary of the victory in World War II, a day when celebrations are held to honor the Russian veterans who once fought to liberate the world from the poison of fascism.
Many of the war’s veterans, now in their 80’s and 90’s, made appearances at the Shorefront Jewish Center in Brooklyn’s Brighton Beach, parading down to the Millennium Theatre on the corner of Brighton Beach and Coney Island Avenue.
The youngest of the veterans are over 80 years old today, many of them arriving in wheelchairs, and with the help of canes, walkers, and scooters.
The veterans shared stories and showed their medals to all the onlookers and young people in attendance, many of whom brought along flowers and gifts to show their gratitude for their great sacrifice.
Every year we lose our dear veterans. They saved our lives.
I love each of them – old men and women, who 4 years risking their liles to save ours.
