Geneva, a small town on the border of Switzerland and France, is home to approximately 5,000 Jewish people.
This year, on Lag B’omer, it was pouring rain. Still, despite the weather the Chabad community came together in the Bet Chabad to celebrate the upshernish -haircutting ceremony – of the son of a fellow community member.
Later, the Geneva Stadium filled up for an amazing and inspirational Lag B’omer festival, concert and rally with 3500 proud Jews attending from all walks of life.
The event started with rides and activities for all the children as well as the biggest Kosher BBQ the region has seen.
The afternoon was filled with entertainment, including a dance performance by the Chabad Chai Kindergarten and a concert by singer Yossi Fraenkel, accompanied by musician Mendy Pevsner of France.
The concert was followed by a grand parade introduced by Shliach to Geneva Rabbi Mendel Pevzner, which included all the children from the local Chabad institutions, who marched through the stadium to the outdoor sports field.
“The event was awesome,” people were heard saying. “Rabbi Pevzner doesn’t sleep, he cares so much about our community.”
