By COLlive reporter in New York and Miami
A terrible tragedy shocked the Lubavitch community in New York and elsewhere after a young Lubavitch bochur passed away Sunday, Lag BaOmer 5770, from a fatal accident in Florida.
Nosson N. Deitsch, 21, who was learning Smicha – rabbinical studies at the Chabad Yeshiva Gedolah of Greater Miami, traveled Friday to Tampa to help organize a Lag BaOmer event.
Following Sunday’s successful Jewish march, Nosson and another bochur were treated to a jet ski ride, a classmate of his told COLlive.com.
The youngest of 12, Deitsch was a studious and humble individual, known for his kindness and vast knowledge in Torah and Chassidus.
“He knew the whole Tanya by heart,” a friend said. “Every day he would say chapters upon chapters by heart to keep them fresh in his mind. He was a one-of-a-kind masmid.”
Bits of information that circled by word of mouth in the Yeshiva and spread by text messages shocked his many friends from school and summer camps.
He is the son of the late businessman and philanthropist Zalman Deitsch obm, who lived on Crown Street in Crown Heights. 10 of his siblings are Chabad Shluchim.
Not knowing specific details, bochurim in the Miami Yeshiva immediately began saying Tehillim for his recovery.
It didn’t take long for the Tampa Police to report that the accident happened just before 2:50 p.m. local time on the north side of the Courtney Campbell Causeway when Nosson’s jet ski was struck by a second jet ski.
“As a result of the collision, the victim was knocked off of the jet ski and into the water,” police told the local press.
Deitsch, who often had a shy smile on his face, was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital by Tampa Fire Rescue and was later pronounced dead.
The Tampa Marine Patrol is investigating the accident. The other bochur was said to be fine.
Deitsch’s many family members expressed shock and disbelief upon hearing the tragic news.
“How can this be?!” one family member exclaimed. “How can such a thing happen to a wonderful person like him?!”
The funeral will pass by 770 Monday at 3:30 pm..
Shiva will take place at the Deitsch home at 518 Crown Street.
Davening times are as follows: Shachris 10 am
Mincha 5 pm
Maariv bizmana.
The family has requested that only immediate family should be there after 10:00 pm.

I never knew him. May his mother and siblings – and extended family – and extended not related family, be comforted among the mourners of Tzion.
May we all make Nosson happy by really loving each other, we know what to do now! Nosson taught us.

I didn’t know Nosson personally. I know many of his relatives and some of his siblings. When I found out about this tragedy I felt like a broken person. How can someone so young and innocent be taken away from his family and friends just like that?!?! Every single time I heard his name or thought about it I would burst into tears. For three days I was a nightmare. Couldn’t learn, couldn’t do anything…
Nosson – We are all thinking about you and you are greatly missed!
i remember how nosson one time by a farbrengen for my
birthday told me to make a very simple hachloto which was to

Thank you for the idea #67 I knew Nosson and he was one of a kind. I was totally jelous of his chassidisher chayus. After everything he had suffered, he would still lift the atmosphere and everyone in the room. He oozed genuine simcha and true chassidishkeit. Nosson you were a great shaliach, cut of in your prime, you would have made a perfect husband, father and shaliach. I am those things! I want your family to know that I will add chayus into my day. Since Tanya was Nosson’s a’h favorite thing, I will Bli neder speak to my family tomorrow, explain to them what happened, r”l and will encourage them to study lines of Tanya by heart l’iluy nishmoso. I will myself study some lines,so the kids will see and follow by example. The word ‘Tanya’ switched around also spells ‘Aytan’ which means Strength/Future.
By learning Tanya, may his family and all of us have much stength, and with this sefer the Future will be quickly revealed with the coming of Moshiach right now!

You probably don’t remember me but I remember you, and I really admired you. And I cried for you. Now please demand hashem to help the rest of us down there. I think your passing will change my life forever. I still can’t believe this is happening.
Boruch Dayan Ha’emes. I did not know Nosson but from his pictures and from what people say everyone can see that he was b’simcha. Having passed away on Lag B’omer, it almost seems like a message from Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai about not being sad. Also his dedication to learning Tanya, the inner Torah which includes Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai taught should motivate us to increase in the learning and spreading of chassidus in his memory, for the refuah shlaima of his brother, and for the geula shlaima.
that is to bad to be true
I feel so bad for the family
Some posts are SO inappropriate. Wherever you see Reply to #72 or #3, they were removed. Thanks COL. ‘
Pple, please refrain from using destructive words. Use the positive instead. You can say, the Deitsch’s should always be blessed with brachos instead of the other way around, bringing out the negative.
Dear Hashem, Please have mercy on your people and send us the complete and immediate Geula!!! Since the Shechina resides in golus with us, Hashem surely feels our pain… our hearts are torn, we cry until we can no more…we plead and beg you Hashem to take into account all the chessed and inspiration which we have received from this beautiful and exceptional family – the entire Deitsch family – and feeling our pain take us out of this golus! There is no end to the benefits of Golus so we beg you PLEASE – ENOUGH IS ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!… Read more »
I never had the zechus to know Nosson. All I know is that he was an incredible chossid and an example for us all. The pain on hearing about this terrible tragedy is overwhelming. Please tell us his full name and what area he koched in so that we can take on practical hachlatos to be ileu nishmas the neshama of this special bachur. May we merit to be together with him again now with the geula hamitus vihashleima now!
Please do not write in such a manner about a chosid who was an absolute Dugme Chaya of a Pnimisdiker Chasidishe yid with Hiskashrus and Ahavas yisroel running thru every fiber of his body. He lived and breathed Rebbe with every breath he took and instilled that hergesh in all of his family.
Hashem this is too much!! Please stop!!
Enough is enough!!
The Deitsch’s are the most inspiring family…………but hopefully very soon we will see & feel & shed no more tears, and they will be united with nosson, their loving father, a complete refuah sheleima for R’ levi Yitzchok ben Tzirel and we will all leave this terrible terrible golus.
we are all crying with u during this completely impossible to comprehend time……….

noson we love you!
One never knows why the ribone shelOlam picks family A over family B. Neither can we judge another, others or vice a versa. In the end everyone has a peckale and there are reasons for everything shreklach as it may be like this one BDE not to be believed and totally insane but what do we know?
Simply put chevra lets just continue or become better people in regards to achdus and ahvas yisroel.
That story happened with former prime minister Ariel Sharon. Sharon had then said that 100’s of ppl tried to comfort him but no one could until the Rebbe told him this.
Nosson was a great bochur who will be sorely missed by all. Family n friends are grieving!
Moshiach now!
Baruch Dayan Haemes.
Aibeshter Ad Mosai? Ad Mosai? Ad Mosai?
I do not think this is the place nor the time to justify G-d and his actions. If the family needs an opinion they can get it elsewhere.Stop the ranting about how everything G-d does is for the good.,This is not the place for this. Now is a time for silence and self introspect not justification and explanation. You can farbreng about G-d and his Mighty Goodness at your next farbrengen ,not here when people are mourning.
Not Nosson! Hashem Yerachem!
I am fortunate to know nosson for a number of years. I now commit to let the world know who nosson was for many years to come but not just throgh empty words amd prommises but rather I will do this through my actions. I need not mention who The Deitch family are. There actions speak louder then words. May hashem have pity on them and be comforted in their suffering
was such a unique bocur, a true oholei torahnik in all sense of the word, chassidish, always b”simcha
may hashem grant strength to his mother and family
To the Deitch famly, our hearts are bleeding with yours.
The truth of the tragedy is that it is just that/. The Rebbe said many times we DON’T have to make excuses for the RBS”O! We have to storm the heavens and ask, WHY? WHY? WHY? And then we have to double and triple our efforts to do what is necessary to bring Noson back together with the Rebbe and everyone else that have been taken from our physical midst. Talk to Noson – he can hear you even if you can’t hear him. Tell him what you need from him, what we all need from him – even as… Read more »

I love you Nosson and will miss you.
Enough is Enough! Hashem we DEMAND moshaich now!!!!!
Rabbonim & Leaders must tell the Kehila how we can increase H’s Protection!
i do believe that Hashem understands the anger and the lashing out and He forgives because He knows that klal yisroel fights for their own and cries out for their own just like Moshe did.so don’t jump on people.H’ appreciates how Jews react more than those who do not cry out and say well H’ knows best…that is has nothing to do with the normal yelling out about ones’ brother and Jewish family!
Natan was really one of kind.
natan what a very special and fine bachur.all my boys had him as a counceller and loved him so much. my son jut told me that his modo in camp was time doesnt go back it only goes forward.every minute counys the clock is winding down. he really left an imprint on this son.we will all miss you.cant believe this!!what a tragedy!!we really need moshiah now!!!!!!!!!!!!!so we could all be reunited with natan>

Having suffered (and still suffering) tragedy myself: Sometime, an act of G-d seems so very wrong and deliberately cruel, that one might wish to curse or say something rather unpleasant against Avinu sheBashamayim. By instituting the practice of reciting BDH immediately upon learning of a tragedy, a Jew cannot find it within himself to first bless the good G-d and then immediately do the opposite! So while he may not remain on good terms with the Aibishter for many months, or even years (time sometimes heals slowly), the initial act of verbalizing BDH, speech being a most powerful tool that… Read more »

If you were correct, then the Jewish people would have long ceased to exist. Yet as a nation we have we defied mathematical probability and defeated social science and history for thousands of years. Go blow your probability horn at the nations – they will accept it with open arms. But we, the Jewish nation, do and die, survive and thrive to a completely different rhythm. Rambam has stated that he who writes as you have is callous and ignoring the Torah’s true message. In short: you are completely wrong. Except for the verse with which you opened your remarks,… Read more »

With your small eyes, you cant see. i can not understand this suffering either. But. we have to accept tyahty we DON’T understand and at the same time DEMAND, Moshiach NOW! NOW! NOW!!
there is a reason why we say boruch dayan emes when there is a passing or tragedy because Hashem has a reason for everything and even though we dont understand why and to us it seems like a barbarity we still say boruch dayan emes to question Hashem’s reasoning is worse than the actual tragedy the only thing that will help us get through these tough times is emunah in Hashem and knowing that He knows what He’s doing and with our strengthened emunah and achdus moshiach will come now!

How much can a family endure
that is why we say baruch dayan ha’emes. even if we dont understand why, we still thank hashem, because even if we dont realize it, everything is for the good. whether or not it seems like it to us, (and this forsure does not) its still all part of a bigger picture, and we bless Hashem, because He knows what He is doing.
This is the first thing I felt when I saw the title and also the first two words of the written in addition. And besides the words of deep pain, sorrow and compassion, I don’t find anything else to feel and say about this information at this moment.
