The hundreds of participants at the annual Israel Day Fair in Montreal’s West Island were given free bottles of cold natural spring water by Chabad Shluchim.
The only thing requested in return was to do a good deed.
The Chabad booth at the Federation CJA-organized event in Dollard-des-Ormeaux, a Montreal suburb, was called “Do A Mitzvah For Israel.”
Pairs of black-strapped Tefillin, pamphlets about Shabbos candles and other Jewish information awaited the enthusiastic pro-Israel participants on the sunny day this week.
“People were happy to see us there and very responsive,” Rabbi Leibel Fine of Chabad in Dollard, told COLlive.com.
He and his colleagues Rabbi Shmuel Cohen of Chabad of Kirkland and West of the Island’s new Shliach Rabbi Nochum Labkowsky of Chabad of St. Lazare were on hand at the booth.
They gave out some 600 bottles of Naya water, each with a label reminding Jews to do a Mitzvah for Israel’s safety and security.
