From the COLlive Inbox: I am perplexed annually why people have this urge to fill pizza stores and bakeries Motzoei Pesach. Can we not hold ourselves back till the morning? Full Story

GO ESTIE AND SHAINY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1st pizza Auctioned off
April 9, 2010 4:07 am

In Miami the Hatzolah auctioned off the first pies off Pizza at a few establishments.

It’s a great way to raise money for Tzedaka, nobody got hurt and someone didn’t have to wait for their Pizza and felt good about helping a worthy cause… Win win situation and I think every City should do it.

we have a family tradition, after pesach we go to walmart for pizza crust and make pizza, we do it because it is fun and we are sick of fish and fleish, it is fun before everyone returns home. lonely in kansas now that everyone left,

Almost a mitzvah
April 8, 2010 5:58 am

Eating chamatz right after Pesach is a way to affirm that one denied oneself chomatz during the holiday in order to fulfill the mitzvah.

What a Snag
April 8, 2010 12:48 am

After the holiday is over, people work hard to clean and put away the Pesach dishes for next year, and when the kitchen is all fixed up there is usually little or no food left and they are mighty hungry! The pizza restaurants offer fresh, hot food and in many communities this is a festive occasion.

We learned during seudas Hamoshiach that if the seuda continues until after yomtov, you can eat hometz and still bentch “Yaale v’yavo” for “Chag hamatzot”

hey chochom:
If you’re preparing for shevuos – so eat blintzes or cheesecake – why Pizza?!
also, isn’t “preparing” for zman matan toraseinu mean L’IMUD HATORAH – K’IPSHUTO!?
How does Pizza prepare you for matan torah?

AH'BI MEN LIK'T IN DI ACHEILA!?!
April 7, 2010 5:09 pm

Some idiot decided to go run for a piece of pizza – and before long what do you know? It becomes a “minhog” a “mitzvah” s’iz mehr nit fun noch ah teretz far dem yetzer horah!
why didn’t we see this “hanhoga” by the Rebbe?!
why didn’t the Rebbe hand out mashke instead of wine by kos shel brocha – AFTER PESACH WAS OVER!?!
why davka WINE? and davka kosher l’pesach wine?!

Dear Englishman
April 7, 2010 4:10 pm

You’re probably not a Lubavitcher because if you were you would know that achron shel pesach the ho’oroh of Moshiach is son strong that we eat gebrokhs – which we consider chometz for the previous seven days. Why? Because the ho’oroh of moshiach is so strong that chometz has an Aliya!

This is why Lubavitchers the world over rush to Pizza stores after Pesach. We are LIVING Moshiach!

Btw, you should really chill out a bit. The ‘English’keit is affecting you more than you know… Seriously…

From a sicha
April 7, 2010 3:56 pm

Pesach: Super careful with chametz
Last Day: Careful to WET the matzoh
Moshiach Seudah: Allowed to eat bread if it is after tzes hakochavim

Why? Because we worked without it, and now we can and should be engaged in “chametz”

That is why this helike yidin can’t wait to the morning to start their holy avodah!

Get it?

GO ME!
April 7, 2010 2:21 pm

can i tag myself??:)

i got a reason
April 7, 2010 1:50 pm

Post Pesach chometz is a seudas hoda’ah for finishing the big cleanup job!

Ummmm......
April 7, 2010 1:01 pm

We refrain from eating chometz on Pesach because it is a mitzvah. After Pesach there is nothing wrong with eating chometz. In fact if you think one should continue to refrain than you are being mosif to the Torah. Many gedolei torah had the minhag to davka make havdala over beer to show that we refrained from eating chometz because Hashem told us to and now that we are no longer commanded we eat chometz.

Pizza and MAtza!
April 7, 2010 12:55 pm

Common/Chassidishe sense says: The finger pointing should only be done internally, to oneself. For everyone else’s behavior, generally speaking, be dan l’kaf zechus. If you know someone personally, and you can speak to him and inspire him/her to become higher, go for it.

April 7, 2010 12:03 pm

what do you mean??
who wants to eat the ‘pesach’ food after you ate it for 8 days?????????????????????’
and who has time to cook chumatz food? its easier to fo to the pizza shop 😛

April 7, 2010 10:39 am

the moroccan sephardim make a party of eating chometz after Pesach called mimouna

The Answer!
April 7, 2010 10:21 am

Believe it or not this custom has its source in Kedusha. It is the accepted custom that as soon as one yom tov is over we begin to prepare for the next yom tov. The Rebbe explains at great length (as you started to say in your question) of the difference between Chometz and Matza, each with it’s purpose and each with it’s time. Pesach – We must first be humble, like Matza. This represents redemption and is a preparation for Matan Torah. Shavuos – represents Chometz, rising, and existence, as we know the korbon which was brought on Shavuos… Read more »

after moshiach sedua and the whole day of gebrokts where we are changing all to good. with this strength we all run to the chametz stores and want to take the chametz and be mevarer it to kedusha and bittul (which after passover – it takes like 30 mins untill its fully misbatel from pizza to…)_

this is not to the writer of the article but to all those that posted…just because you lack his sensitivity to this issue at least b aware of it….you dont have to take it so negatively ….hes not saying you cant buy chametz, but you still need to b aware of the yomtov you just went out of ,and as jews yes we have self control and dont run to the pizza shop first thng after yt, though you may just b picking up some food, but his point is corrrect, theres something wrong with ones chinuch if you just laugh this all… Read more »

What is the Big Deal??
Its all just pat of the Post Pesach Perfomance!!
We finish cleaning , we ”change back over” and then we have our yearly “outing to the bakery!! ” Its the highlight of the evening!! The kids love it. . what has it to do with being humble or having pride???
Give us a break. . and let us live, without always counting our ‘avairos’ . . may this be our worst! and for those who dont wannu go. . well, stay home and let others decide for themselves what they wannu do!!!!!

go home
April 7, 2010 8:07 am

Because their mothers are too busy putting away the Pesach dishes and getting out the chometz ones to make supper. They should be home helping their mothers.

April 7, 2010 7:01 am

I am even more ‘perplexed’ than you are… Why would someone have the ‘urge’ to write a public letter (on Motzoei Pesach) about people eating pizza on Motzi Pesach? But putting that aside, the positive spin on it could have something to do with what the Rebbe says in the famous Gebrochts Sicha. The reason we eat Gebrochts on Acharon S”P is because we are not vulnerable to the evil that is symbolized by the Cheshash of Chametz. It’s a Moshiach day and when Moshiach comes, we will not run from evil but engage and eradicate it. The Rebbe then… Read more »

Did you try Mendelsohns Pizza
April 7, 2010 6:52 am

Mendelsohns Pizza down the block on 18 Avenue was overflowing Motzei Yom Tov too. We need to have Chometz immediately after Pesach. Tzadikim used to make havdallah on beer!!!

Who says that what drives the Jews
is ‘pride’ and ‘arrogance?’
Aren’t there other motivations?
Why didn’t the writer sign his/her name?
Why post an article without a name?
The article itself sounds like ‘loshon hara.’
Remember and fear: If you judge another Jew
on the side of guilt G-d Alm-ty will judge you the
same way, even if there is a doubt about the reason
for your conduct.

Mee Kamcha Yisroel !!!
April 7, 2010 6:35 am

Its brought down in holy books that there is a big inyan to eat chometz immediatly after pesach. I believe in some Chassidic courts (not Chabad ) they would actually make Havdala on beer in order to have chometz right away. For most of us the easiest thing to do is Pizza. Plus, the kids are hungry and its the perfect hot and ready meal.

April 7, 2010 5:04 am

So what do you want?
If there weren’t lines the night after there would be the next day…
Nobody has Chametz in their houses due to the Pesach holiday so when it’s over everybody needs food, all at once.
Simple.

Because it's festive and light-hearted, not "frenzied"
April 7, 2010 4:46 am

These people are not in a genuine “frenzy,” desperate for chometz and leaving behind the message of Pessah in a wild tear to the pizzeria and/or bakery. That may be your (mis-) characterization, but that’s just not what flocking to the risen bread outlets is about, IMHO. People join their friends and families on Motsei Pessah for pizza and cake because it’s a fun, light-hearted, enjoyable and (get this) entirely permissible way to “break bread” and share the end of Pessah B’yachad. No one tramples anyone to get to the pizza. No one is salivating at the door. No one… Read more »

Vos Art Dir.
Is there a lack of Pizza stores in England? Maybe try Slice on Golders Green Road…
I was there a few years back on Motzei Pesach and witnessed much humility from the buyers.
not every time a picture is posted is there a need to make an article tzimmes out of it. Genug Shoin.
A guten Isru Chag
and Enjoy the Chometz!

to the writer:
April 7, 2010 4:27 am

i have a better question:

after all those spiritual days of pesach and the seder we have a farewell day called isru chag that is meant to show how hard it is for us to depart from the yomtov

and all we are meant to practically do on isru chag is add in eating and drinking! couldn’t they think of something more appreciate and fitting for depart from pesach??!

maybe ppl are just hungry.....
April 7, 2010 4:20 am

Its not necessarily that ppl are animals craving a pizza. This is just like a regular any other meal, (humans need to eat)

Usually, no one has food at home at this time…so whats the easiest ready made food to buy, and that is available at that late hour? pizza!

Thats all. no need to turn it into a whole low class thing.
