The Sixth Annual Auction of Chabad in Alaska has once more attracted more than 500 business leaders and government officials thanks to the hard work of the friends of Chabad in Alaska Gala Co-Chairs, Liz Ashlock and Shani Green.
Dubbed the “Event of the Year,” the gala took place at the Hilton Hotel in Anchorage and raised funds in support of the Esformes Campus in Alaska, which includes Chabad House, Synagogue, School, and Jewish Museum, led by the Shluchim Rabbi Yosef and Esty Greenberg. Despite the economic situation, the event this year was a great success.
At the gala, special tribute was paid to the “Women of Valor,” acclaimed author, journalist, influential humanitarian, and government advisor and advocate for holocaust refugees, Dr. Ruth Gruber of New York, for her contribution to the development of Alaska as special representative of Secretary of Interior in Alaska during World War II, and friend of Israel, Rosemary Schindler, great niece of the legendary Oscar Schindler, for her support of the Jewish people and Israel.
Special awards were presented to Mr. Jerry Green, a founder and supporter of the new Campus; founder of Alaska House of New York, and Mrs. Alice Rogoff-Rubenstein.
State of Alaska House of Representatives, Rep. John Harris served as Honorary Chair of the dinner. Also attending were Alaska Governor Sean Parnell and other members of the Alaska Senate, Mayors, and former Governors.
A special video presentation featuring the many events and activities that took place during the campus’ first year was shown during the evening.
The renowned Krohn Brothers Orchestra was flown in from New York City to perform at the Gala. The Krohn Brothers also performed art a family concert that took place the next morning at the Hilton Hotel for the students of the Chabad School in Anchorage, together with their parents.
Wish I never left!
