In the early hours of Friday 12th February 2010, a group of 15 teenage boys aged 12 – 15 set off from the Chabad Lubavitch Centre in Gants Hill with all their luggage and food for a week, to begin their very long journey to Fort William, Scotland.
Rabbi Moshe Muller, with the help of Shmulie Weinbaum, took the group on a week-long trip, filled with exhilarating activities and adventures.
The trip began with a Shabbat in Leeds, and the group enthralled the community with the enthusiasm of the Ilford Youth. All the boys had a great time skiing and snowboarding for two days on the Scottish Highlands in Fort Willia, as well as a visit to a Salmon farm to learn the detailed process and care that is taken in order to get fish for Shabbat.
For some, this was the first time that they had experienced Judaism from morning to night, beginning each morning with Modeh Ani, washing hands in the morning, saying blessings before eating, Grace after meals and praying. For others it was their first time wearing their Teffilin as well as learning and discussing Jewish topics and giving them the ability to ask any questions they had each day. In addition they experienced working together and understanding each other with the true spirit of Ahavas Yisroel.
Unfortunately all too soon it was time to pack up and prepare for the long journey home, as a wonderful week had come to an end. The boys now look forward to the annual summer youth trip.
