Fellow Lubavitch chassidim gathered this past Motzoei Shabbos to mark 50 years to the legendary Tanya classes on the radio by Rabbi Yosef Wineberg.
Lessons in Tanya, today printed in a few languages, was a unique course of weekly shiurim that was delivered over the New York airwaves and inspired many other the years.
Rabbi Wineberg was renowned for his lucid explanations of Chassidus which he mastered during his trips as a “Shadar” (fundraiser for the Rebbe’s causes).
At a Farbrengen in Getzel’s Shul in Crown Heights, the elderly chossid spoke about the Alter Rebbe, author of the Tanya, and instructions he received from the current Rebbe regarding the classes.
He was flanked by his sons Rabbi Yitzchak Wineberg, Director of Lubavitch British Columbia, and abbi Levy Wineberg, director of the Rabbinical College of Pretoria, South Africa.
Other attendess included: Badatz Crown Heights Rabbis Avraham Osdoba and Yaacov Schwei, the Rebbe’s secretary Rabbi Leibel Groner, President of Igud HaRabanim Rabbi Avraham Hecht and Head Shliach in Western Massachusetts, Rabbi Dovid Edelman.
Also present was Rabbi Zev Katz, Gabbai of 770 and member of the extended committee of Agudas Chassidei Chabad, who filled in for Rabbi Wineberg on the radio when absent.
