Health authorities in New York have notified the Vaad Hakinus that there is a mumps outbreak in the Crown Heights community.
In an email to Shluchim, Kinus organizers say they don’t want to cause any undue alarm, but wish to inform participants of this matter for safety reasons.
Organizers suggest getting two doses of the MMR vaccine as protection against contracting this disease.
During the last week, many cases of the illness have been reported throughout the Crown Heights community.
Local schools have notified parents to be alert to the symptoms, keep children who are ill at home, and make sure children are properly vaccinated.
Mumps is a contagious disease, caused by a virus, that leads to painful swelling of the salivary glands. The virus is spread from person-to-person by respiratory droplets (for example, when you sneeze) or by direct contact with items that have been contaminated with infected saliva.
Symptoms include face pain, fever, headache, sore throat, and swelling of the ear and jaw.
you are so very right! unfortunately, ppl will react the way #4 did – just go out and get shot up again! it is so obvious that the drs. or the government don’t have all of the solutions, yet to say “ainee yodei’ah” that they also can’t say!
what? who or u?
Instead of scarves spotlight should give out masks
sooo many kids in a classroom have it? that its soo interesting – they alll wore off? ahem, ahem, ahem.
u don’t relies until 2 week’s later and thaen u don’t no if u gave it to sum 1els
you think the Shluchim have an obligation to tell their baalei batim whats going on in Crown Heights?????
Many of these baalei batim may have medical reasons for them to know and besides they should have the ability to make that decision for themselves.
Chas vesholom imagine what could happen if they are not told in advance AND SOMEONE HAS A BAD CASE OF IT
according to the science of it – the vaccination should cover you. if ppl get the illness – they excuse themselves that it wore off. bobamysahs! the disease went down before populations were administered it. it is all in the statistics – the uneducated masses play russian roulette with these vaccines.
why do we have soooo much autism now???
the unvaccinated get blamed? NO. it is the vaccinated who are spreading it right now.
we have 60 kid’s in or grade and 20 “HAVE IT” i am in a class of 20 kid’s and 8 have it
but most probably the correct thing to do
i have it , it is hell don’t get close to a person that has it , it is very contagious as i am righting this it fills like i am in hell
so alway’s wash your hands every time u cum in from out side u most wash your hands and every time u sneeze u better wash your hands with sope “thank you for riding and listing” MOSHAICH NOW!!!
About to fly in to NY, I got my MMR shot again
has this been confirmed with blood tests?
my son had these symptons and a blood test confirmed that he had a virus and not mumps.
Apparently, the mumps vaccine can wear off, making the most at-risk population (adolescent boys) more likely to get it. If you’re bringing your boys, get a blood test to see if they are immune, if not, they need a mumps booster. The vaccine they had (or didn’t have) as a child may have worn off.
advice to all shluchim this kinus:
hold back on the kisses & hugs when meeting a close friend. it will be well worth it
