“Hate Blogs Are Killing Us”

The Rabbonim's letter was not about bochurim getting summons, rather about "hate blogs" spreading lies about a constant rift between the community and the police, Zaki Tamir tells COLlive. Full Story, Video

GO ZAKI!!!
December 15, 2010 1:15 pm

this is a clear message of what we all want and need now more than ever

I have a clearer picture now
December 14, 2010 6:45 pm

I feel more secure that there is united responsible leadership here that knows what’s going on behind the scenes and is directing us accordingly. It actually makes me feel secure to get a strong letter like that signed by the Rabbonim.

ZAKI WE BACK YOU 100%

ZAKI WE BACK YOU 100%

grow up and think of the big picture.. 10 years of fighting is enough..

I think Everyone is way off point.
December 13, 2010 9:30 pm

I’m not going to even touch the subject of who is to blame, But rather that the complaint crown heights residents had the past few years was that the 2 rabbi’s are always fighting, Yet here came zaki and got them to agree and sign the same document and suddenly the community doesn’t care what the rabbi’s have to say, Just a reminder that during the questionable election the one candidate that did listen to the rabbi’s and pulled out of the race was zaki, all he is asking is that we as a community follow the psak of the… Read more »

Please, why don’t you let us know who you are – Certain shluchim in various countries internationally have to deal with violent situations on a daily basis, I hope you are not one of them so that such a tough shliach was not wasted on a relatively calm place; but I digress – Please let us know who you are, I would like to sponsor a ticket for you so that you can come in and carry these terrible people so far, far away. December 13, 2010 9:17 pm

Its time to have a central base like Hatzalah for everyone in our schuna who wants to volunteer to patrol should be able to join;and of course with certain guidelines and training. The police certainly need our help. Also it probablywould be a good idea to have volunteers who are home during the day and evening to rotate and watch our blocks(block watchers). Crime in our community is certainly up and we should see to it that a positive change comes about. No one should sit in judgement of any groups, let us try to bring everyone together for the… Read more »

Your comment is naive and a gross generalization. People who listen to the Rabbonim have also unfortunately been victims of crimes which were not addressed properly by the police.

stop the fighting
December 13, 2010 4:11 pm

Why do you try and make it sound like both side are wrong when it is so obviously not so. The SHMIRAH are wrong. While they may have done some good they are and have been hurting this community for the longest time now. their messira and sinas chinum has no limits. there are not 4 groups. COP and Shomrim aslways have worked together as one and are in contact and working hand in hand with the NYPD on a daily basis. Why keep going in circles?
December 13, 2010 3:40 pm

If the CHJCC is really doing it’s best to solve the crime issue- they are discussing, compromising and giving awards to the police and not getting results, then the obvious move is to go outside these confines and contact other government officials to address our concerns and make any departmental changes.

Well said Zaki
December 13, 2010 3:11 pm

This needs to be resolved

Ahavas Chinam!!!
December 13, 2010 1:33 pm

Zaki is 100% right…If you don’t have any other agendas it’s pretty obvious that Zaki cares for the community just because he wants the best for it…

Zaki rocks
December 13, 2010 12:41 pm

people,
Zaki is doing his best to get all this conflict resolved. Let’s do our job so he can do his.

To shomrim and shmira;
December 13, 2010 12:35 pm

You might have good intentions but harm is even greater. Time to unite or shut down – or move to another place!

there is no use for your protection if crime is anyways up and your time is spent on massering about each other

how come.
December 13, 2010 11:35 am

the only story this cohen dude was able to bring to prove our “gr8” relationship with the police was A STORY FROM LAST YEAR CHANUKAH????? was there nothing good they did in the last whole year?????

One side can be right in a fight
December 13, 2010 11:16 am

I totally disagree with Zaki assertion that if 2 people are in fight than they are both somehow to blame. Was Moshe to blame for Korech starting up with him. Kavoyocho was the Rebbe to blame when shach made a fight with him. Maybe someone is right.

More excuses and defensiveness
December 13, 2010 10:48 am

from Z.Tamir, who should know better. People are not as stupid and gullible as you seem to imply, with your transparent attempt at damage control. Most Crown Heights folk are just busy with the grind of daily life, like everyone else. We are counting on you, as a duly elected community representative, to see that the police respond to our concerns, effectively and legitimately.
Instead, we get damage control, placating the police, hobnobbing with trouble makers. For shame! You can do better.

I’m fighting it, along with a ticket that I was given at a place I have never been (that one is more problematic.) If the cops worry less about making things up & more about Blacks shooting at Jews we’d all be OK. Tamir, stop worrying about blogs. Do your job with integrity! Seriously? If you didn’t want a tough job, why did you run for office? What did you expect?

3 Weeks and 25 minutes?
December 13, 2010 8:51 am

If they really spent 3 weeks to write the letter, they should have found a way to make the letter sound like what they wanted to say. I did not see anywhere in the letter where it mentioned the words “on behalf of the community” Also, nice talk here but again, you probably could have said in five minutes “do not try to represent the community if you are not in charge”. Lastly, this is something that should be directed specifically to the police so they know that the only ones who can speak on behalf of the public are… Read more »

Do we live in a police state?
December 13, 2010 8:06 am

In a democracy one should be able to criticize the police without fear of collective punishment being visited upon the community. We have a constitutional right to open our mouths and say what we want, and still expect the police to fulfill their duties fairly, if they don’t we should make a communal lawsuit and sue them for discrimination and damages. By definition, if we are afraid of the police then we live in a police state, not a democracy. December 13, 2010 7:09 am

If shmira is so good, and shomrim is all bad, why do people regularly call Shomrim when there is an assault or attack or mugging, etc? Why do I keep reading articles saying how shomrim members responded quickly and came to the scene and helped? Seems to me- an outsider living in a different continent- that Shomrim does good for the residents of crown heights. Don’t want to cause problems here, just want to understand.

We support you, Zaki
December 13, 2010 6:40 am

Thank you Zaki for having the guts to say it like it is and stand up for our community. Us regular folks just want all this to stop so we can focus on the important issues, such as cracking down on crime in our neighborhood.
In Williamsburg the community police liaison IS the head of shomrim! They work with the police, not against them!
Only in our crazy neighborhood would you find a comm. patrol who proudly says they are fighting the police
its just madness that we put up with it…

scrap them both start anew
December 13, 2010 5:33 am

what is needed is to scrap them both start fresh all members should be professionally trained & licensed which requires background checks.I will wager that at least half of each patrol would fail the criminal back ground checks. Yes that is what we have 2 gangs of thugs & do nothings. As for the 71 pct civilian patrol It is mostly a extension of the Shmirah gang of thugs!

GREAT JOB!

December 13, 2010 4:14 am

As an outsider I don’t understand how a community can be held to ransom by a pathetic family committed to destruction. Back in the day when I lived in Crown Heights, 10 of us would have physically carried them out of the community and dumped them hundreds of miles away with a simple threat: “You return at your peril.” I could think of the other nine guys who would join me. Now we are all on shlichus and you let a menacing band of men take you all hostage? How absurd is that? In the meantime needing Rabbonim to write… Read more »

December 13, 2010 1:48 am

Lets make it clear! it’s NOT about Shmira and Shomrim! It’s about shomrim and anyone that has a different opinion. If you disagree with them as most Lubavitch does you’re subject to terrorism both physical and mental. Through their umbrella sites all they can report is accidents and fights.

To everyone including #41
December 13, 2010 1:46 am

They did ‘help’ the bochurim in a sense. Eli Cohen offered the bochurim a friend of his who is a lawyer to represent them for 500 dollars (good deal, don’t you think?). And he told them to keep the story quiet, and let the justice system take care of itself. Wow, what great assistance. -Chaim G. (I heard this first hand)

Whoa!!!! Nice article. We should all support Zaki Tamir. He is a sincere person who actually cares and is doing something about it. At the very least, if you don’t actually do something productive to help, don’t hurt Zaki’s efforts to execute change.

2 statements
December 12, 2010 10:28 pm

It seems like Zaki is saying not to make statements that might be taken as a community opinion and lets handle the infighting within the community. This makes alot of sense.

But Eli Cohen seems to be saying that anything negative that you say about the police can hurt their ability to get favors from the police so don’t say anything negative to the media, just like is written in the letter from the Rabbonim.

December 12, 2010 10:14 pm

Hats off to your honesty, commitment and sincerity in bringing peace and security to this community…. BUT: Let’s not give the PD awards and gratitude, without clearly expressing to them the overwhelmingly felt mutual opinion of majority of the community that, we feel that the police are somehow much faster to give out parking tickets etc. to fill their quota, they are always in the right place in the right time when it comes to catching a ticket victim, AND MUCH SLOWER to be in the right place at the right time when unfortunately the victim is one of violence… Read more »

confused
December 12, 2010 10:01 pm

The letter that was issued seemed to indicate a very different ruling.

Still, assuming that this is your message, don’t you think the community members are able to decide for themselves what they need to do when they are victims? This is America, and the police are here to protect us, we don’t need to manage our residents from protecting themselves when they need to.

Those who care to listen to the Rabonim never have issues with the Police so if it happens that they do they will probably go to the community council, those who have issues won’t listen anyway, they now have more people to hate.
