David Lazerson, the Chassidic musician and teacher known as Dr. Laz, was a lead entertainer at the Halftime Show of Wednesday’s Miami Heat game for Jewish Heritage Night.
His ‘Dr. Laz and the Cure’ band played and was joined by “The Sensations,” a men’s choir he formed with young adults with physical disabilities.
They used American sign language to “sing” along to the live music. Some of the students played adaptive drums and ran the light show right from their wheelchairs using head and knee switches.
“We got the crowd rocking and it was a lot of fun to do,” Dr. Laz told COLlive.com.
“It was great to bring simcha and life to wherever we go. It was a big Kiddush Hashem. Big stuff. Like the Alter Rebbe said, our job is to be lamplighters.”
ESPN and other TV networks carried footage of the game, noting that the Heat “are on a roll ever since the rabbis’ blessings.”
