Jewish Educational Media (JEM) has relocated their production to a new, spacious location in Crown Heights.
Founded in 1980, JEM operates a broadcast-quality production house with a full-time staff of researchers, producers and video editors.
Known for producing the weekly ‘Living Torah’ video series – viewed publicly in 863 (known) locations each week – as well as the ‘My Encounter’ and ‘Living Archive’ projects, JEM had outgrown its existing location, Elkanah Shmotkin, JEM’s director, told COLlive.
“We had outgrown our space,” Shmotkin said. “It was limiting the amount of output we could do.”
Shmotkin said last year JEM released 22 DVD’s. This year, in their new and improved location, they plan to double that number.
The newly renovated, state-of-the-art offices, developed by Jem’s Preservation Director Dekel Hamatian, includes offices for the many staff members and a new production and preservation space.
JEM’s Eastern Parkway location will continue to house the administrative offices as well as the expanded and growing ‘My Encounter With The Rebbe’ offices.
The new location will accommodate the organization’s production suites, research library, and preservation space, and will be the location for working on the audio, video, and photo archive production.
A machine room will eventually house the living archive and interviews on over one petabyte of storage.
“Last year, JEM shipped 65,438 DVD’s to 672 cities across the world,” Shmotkin said. “Now that we have consolidated the logistics and shipping near the production offices as well, our hope is that we can accomplish even more in the future.”
An exclusive open-house for JEM supporters will be held in the near future.
