It was a Bar Mitzvah like few others. Children and volunteers that participate in Friendship Circle’s Sunday Morning Circle joined in the unique celebration of Mendy Schechter’s Bar Mitzvah.
Mendy, while sitting in a wheel chair, beamed with excitement as close to 200 people joined his Simcha. “It was something unlike anything I have ever seen,” said Chaim, a family friend of the Schechters. “In this room, you can feel the Rebbe’s dream coming true. There is no judgment, no prejudice; just pure acceptance and friendship. True Ahavas Yisroel.”
The celebrants sang and danced to the music of a one man band provided by the Mekimi organization, along with a wonderful performance by Yossi Frankel. The French Twins were on hand to provide entertainment, while the guests enjoyed a delicious meal, complete with an extra large birthday cake that brought tremendous joy to Mendy.
Chaya Eckhaus, director of the Friendship Circle, claimed she felt privileged to have a part in arranging the Bar Mitzvah. “I’ve been a part of many special events. But to see the joy on the faces of Mendy and his family was truly something incredible.”
There were many who worked tirelessly to ensure Mendy was able to experience true joy on his special day, including Zalman and Pessie Shochat, Chaya Chein, Rivki Turner, Golda Malka Feller, Sparkles Gift & Party Shop and more. It was a shining example of the Ahavas Yisroel this community is capable of.

they really are very talented, I think there may have been a few children who were afraid though during parts of the act on stilts with the kind of scary looking old man who’s head “came off”. In general though amazing show that the kids loved. very talented pair. much hatzlacha to them

All our learning & doing mitzvos, is great but if it doesn’t come 2 helping those that need help like these children & caring about them and doing things 4 them, what has our learning brought us to ? So therefore when the Rebbe sent out Shluchim it was 2 cover every kind of thing that is need 4 Yidden and the Friendship circle is 1 of the best parts of the Rebbe’s Shlichus even though it didn’t come out till 35 years later. (PS-Perhaps in the future you can put the Jewish calendar year on the sweatshirts as in 5771 etc..as opposed to the non-Jewish year that is counted from Yoshkeh. If for whatever reason you must put the goyishe year, then put the Jewish year too, and in bigger… )
Beautiful, beautiful, moving Bar Mitzvah.
Their constant positive outlook, purity, and love for others are unbelievable. May Hashem bentch them with much Yiddishe and Chassididhe Nachas and may we all dance together already with Moshiach Tzidkeinu. We have learned so much from them in how to approach life. Mazal Tov! Mazal Tov! It was such a beautiful Simcha. People’s faces were shining with joy and Mendy was the star of the show!!! His face was the brightest of all. Only simchos.
