As an advocate for Bonei Olam working with couples experiencing infertility, Sara knows exactly what challenges lay ahead for each one – even before a file is reviewed.
Without specific details, Sara knows that the couple in question is hurt and aggravated. She knows their sadness and their emptiness – and she knows it first-hand. Having struggled against devastating infertility issues for many years, she is keenly aware of couples’ special needs and requirements. As he recalls her own miserable memories of that difficult era in her life, Sara proudly relays how she has come full circle and is now able to, by the benefit of her own experience, help others from enduring the harrowing and little understood world of being a childless couple in any one our communities.
As a representative of Bonei Olam, the epitome of chesed, Sara is able to relieve a couple’s stress as they learn of a potential problem or receive a definitive diagnosis regarding their inability to have a family under normal circumstances. First and foremost is the creed by which Bonei Olam approaches each couple: “You are not alone.”
In a world where time stops for no one and younger siblings bear children with seemingly great ease, couples who are faced with the possibility of a childless future are broken in more ways than one. It is imperative that they begin the necessary treatments once conclusions have been drawn about their medical condition. Of great importance is the atmosphere surrounding the couple and positive, hopeful thoughts might be difficult to come by when weighed down by financial worries and other concerns.
Bonei Olam accompanies each couple through the entire process and alleviates so much of the couple’s burden by sharing it with them and often carrying it alone.
Since the establishment of Bonei Olam, thousands of couples have had the opportunity to experience the heart and soul of Bonei Olam and Klal Yisroel has been privileged to play this important role in the lives of couples who need financial help for fertility treatment. Several thousand couples have been blessed with the ultimate success with the help of Hashem and the aid of Bonei Olam and some two and half thousand babies now grace their parents loving arms and happy homes – who but for Bonei Olam may not have reached this milestone.
Bonei Olam continues to be inundated with phone calls from all over the state and globally as well. Each community comes out in support of their own and partners with Bonei Olam to help the couples among them by funding the exorbitantly priced fertility procedures. In Brooklyn, New York, where B”H the largest contingent of frum Yidden reside, the need is so terribly great and Bonei Olam endeavors to survive, struggling against the backdrop of an ailing economy.
Bonei Olam genuinely wants to extend assistance to each couple and hopes it can continue to grant those who need the opportunity, b’ezras Hashem to build their own family. Modern medicine is a blessing; it’s true, one which comes at a steep price. Still, we know it can be done – we can help turn couples into families; women to mothers and men to fathers, to raise the next generation of the keepers of Torah, Avodah and Gemilus Chasodim.
The volunteers at Bonei Olam have been toiling endlessly for months and especially during the past few weeks to bring our community the Bonei Olam Annual Event and Showcase Auction, an unparalleled evening of tzedakah bathed in a cornucopia of a beautiful reception, delicious fare, meaningful divrei chizuk and an out-of-this-world Chinese Auction.
