As has been said by comment number 4, the story is completely true. The person the story happened to is known personally by the Shliach in Antwerp (Belgium) and other Shluchim from Central Europe. His e-mail address is also known and we sent him an e-mail to know if the Rebbe finally gave him a copy of the letter.
The Shliach in Antwerp Rabbi Shabsai Slovititsky, who knows this person personally also tells this story.
I heard this story over Succos- but apparently I’m hearing that this story isn’t true. “People” looked into the story and they say it never happened. The Rebbe never pulled this man over and took him up to his room to show him a letter he wouldn’t give him. Can someone clarify?? I’m also hearing there are false Rebbe stories going around made by “non lubavitchers” just to poke fun.

i heard many different versions of this story going around on the internet this erev yom kipur . and now i know the correct version thanks to your integrity that you try and confirm a story by the person with which this happened
