President of the German Bundestag parliament Norbert Lammert was a guest this week of the Jewish Educational Rohr Chabad Center – Szloma Albam Haus in Berlin.
Known for his keen interest in education and cultures, Professor Lammert came to witness first-hand the 25,000 Sq. foot center ehich offers a range of classes, educational and youth programs.
He was welcomed by the Head Shliach of Berlin Rabbi Yehuda Tiechtel and his colleagues Rabbi Shmuel Segal and Rabbi Dovid Gvirtz.
Lammert, who is ranked second after the President and before the Chancellor, first visited the synagogue and according to people present has asked about the times of prayers and the meaning of Torah scrolls.
He then visited the Yeshiva Gedolah of Chabad, where the Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Uri Gamson and Rabbi Avrohom Golobotchov told him that the students plan to lead communities in Europe and elsewhere.
One of the bochurim, Eli Bordin, told the head of the Bundestag about his long journey from Russia to keeping Jewish life in Germany.
“You are a shining example as you give the youth all the tools they will need to succeed in life,” Dr. Lammert commented, reported a participant.
