Welcome to Monday Torah, a riveting class by Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Jacobson, one of the most sought after speakers in the Jewish world today and leader of Congregation Bais Shmuel in Crown Heights.
The weekly video webcast is aired on TheYeshiva.net and COLlive.com each Monday evening at 8:30 PM EST.
This week’s lecture, accompanied by a full study curriculum, explores why are so many of youths leaving the fold.
Maybe behind this entire phenomenon lay a profoundly positive search, he suggests.
He goes on to clarify the one area in Jewish life which assimilation did not destroy, and how in our generation, the last generation of galus, we must return to the model of Avraham Avenu to discover our Judaism from within.
VIDEO: Will begins live at 8:30 pm EST. A replay will be available afterwards. Sign in to watch.
i have never seen anyone use their hands this much during a lecture. have you?
yes, it is http://www.theyeshiva.net where R Jacobson’s class is aired.
i think many good points here, especially #11 and #10. we need good educators, who understand people and our generation, and who do not want to create cookie cutter kids, but appreciate individuality.
I’ve spoken to alot of ‘drop outs’ and been mixing with alot of them. The ‘issue’ is due to the fact that if a child is not opne of the most chasidish ones in their class then they are considerd ‘not good’ and lack attention and interest from teachers, principles, rabbes, or just the community. so in order for them to get the attention or extra care they ‘have’ to become a ‘drop out’ and then ones they are fully not keeping kosher or keeping shabbos then the community will care and start to ‘mekariv’ them. Just b/c a child… Read more »
school program should have discussions about real life and basic skills , like math and essays ( in any language)
Our children need stability and education . Most of the “drop offs” are just having fun, they have no goal, no skills. The Problem, as you call it , is far much simpler.
amazing!!!
thank you rabbi jacobson
Did he make up that term?
A very powerful, inspiring talk. Especially the practical application at the end.
agree with numer 2
somewhere else perhaps?
website please
http://www.theyeshiva.net ?
Two basic reasons:
1- They see our “leaders” and “haskonim” fighting over stupidness and see it as hypocrisy/
2-It’s shoved down their throats and there is only one way about it, one system etc. Too many no’s and too few YEAH’s!
very nice shiur..
quite an original explanation, a nice positive twist
They are not “Leaving Us”
We might be “Leaving Them”
Why not make stress on that and article about that!
