Clearly of Concern
September 13, 2010 3:41 am

Clearly of concern to me is this letter from the Vaad, which seems to me to hint very strongly of Politics in all its considerable and very potent latency. Regardless of the votes and assorted bickering that resulted, I will be quite taken aback when I see this system of “government(?)” actually work.

I do wish for all the best and much success.

Democratically?

Yes, people who had a vote can not exclude themselves from “their jurisdiction.” What about the members of our community who did not have a say in who is chosen? Are they to consider themselves under the Rabbonim’s “jurisdiction”?
An election that excludes more than half of the adults in the community (women, singles, etc.) is in no way democratic. Fix that and we will have taken another step toward unity…

not

We elect the members of the vaad; but what position they hold is decided by internal consensus. Usually the one with the most votes is considered Chairman, although there is no rule that says it must be so. Every council has different positions for each member.

Actually they were voted in that way virtue of how many votes Zaki got, he is chairman. Bownstein is an accountant so obviously he would be the treasurer.

Dont look to make a tzimmis out of evreything

And especially to you Zaki, bumping into you on Kingston in that eatery that night, my respect for you shot up to the moon. Hashem should bentch you to be the shliach who gives Kan Tzivah the esteem it should have,,, a new year, a new you (your beard) and a new vaad. Sounds like a winning combination to me! You have many people rooting for you, and interested in helping in whatever way we can.

a fan of zaki

just curious

I see that there are different titles for each of the members. This seems a little odd to me since they were not elected to those specific titles. Obviously, within the vaad, each member will focus on their strengths but I feel like at least on paper they should be listed as equal members.

Tamir did it again

we have lots of people that can answer shaylos lots of people that can provide counseling lots of people that can be a compromise lots of people that can give hashpa’ah lots of people that can even give a good shiur but not everyone will be THE authority the rabbonim and the community (council) need to be awaiting the day that they will have to show that they excercise authority in this community wether to a rabbim or to individuals sad to say we have everything in our community thank g-d all resources and ideas what we are sorely lacking… Read more »
