A Business to Business networking event on Wednesday was hosted by Banco Popular at their branch at Eastern Parkway and Nostrand in Crown Heights.
Its goal was to bring local businesses together and to educate each other on the services they provide for local people and businesses, to improve their sales, ultimately to bring more business back to the bank.
Crown Heights activist and business owner Lazer Avtzon of Its Easy Credit Servicez was on hand and gave a presentation on the make up of credit scores and how FICO works and the importance of having a good FICO score.
In addition, there were several business owners from the African American community providing a diverse array of services, ranging from bankruptcy and divorce attorneys, to CPA’s, financial investment groups, lending groups, credit card processors, etc.
The table with the most inquiries was Credit Services as credit and FICO affect everyone, including many bank tellers and officers themselves who wished to learn more about credit and how they can improve their own personal credit issues. More than 20 people took the Power Point Presentation on Understanding Your Credit.
Should you require assistance with your own credit needs, please feel free to contact Lazer at [email protected]

Your situation is not as complex or complicated as you wish. The first thing I need to tell you is that you are doing the right thing about maintaining separate credit cards accounts, but the mistake you made is was in applying for the mortgage together. Even if you needed to show income from the two of you to qualify, the borrower should only have been one person, so that in the event of a late payment such as you have experienced, you would only be hurting one set of scores, not both. You or your spouse can be assured… Read more »
My wife and I have seperate credit accounts but we are both listed on the title of our home and we have fallen behind in mortgage payments affecting both of our FICO scores. We are also paying very high interest rates on our credit cards and the banks seem to be lowering our credit limits every month and even closing some of our accounts even though we have barely been late with any payments? Do you have any advice for us and can you help us rebuild our credit as we wish to refinance our home.

great guy, we love you
What a brilliant presentation on finally understanding credit. Had I known these basic elements, I could have saved myself lots of misery. Kudos to lazer for sharing his knowledge with us so freely as he continues to help people in the private sector in addition to all the Chesed work he continues to promote through his organization, the Global Jewish Relief Network.
I guess helping people can take on many forms, and does not always have to be charitable and for free.
lazer personally helped me with my credit last year when my excellent standing 760 score plummeted to a shocking 520 – I was stumped but lazer figured it out within minutes and directed me on resolving the issue. Within a month I was back in the 700 range, and just recently I was able to exceed 760 again, thanks to lazer’s wisdom, guidance and metchlichkeit. What I leared about Lazer during our encounter impressed me more than the skill i observed – it was his understated manner not common for a man of his accomplishments as the director of Global… Read more »
