The Flatbush RCCS (Rofeh Cholim Cancer Society) held its annual barbecue On Tuesday night in front of the home of Pinny and Yaffa Rand, attracing its largest crowd ever to benefit the scores of cancer-stricken patients in the Flatbush community.
In response to the ever-growing numbers of RCCS cancer patients seeking insurance help, the RCCS Flatbush event was joined this year by the RCCS Crown Heights Young Initiative Committee. Special Tefilos were offered on behalf of Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin.
RCCS saves the lives of hundreds of cancer-stricken patients in need by subsidizing their health insurance premiums, thus providing them access to the best possible medical care.
Today, RCCS subsidizes insurance policies for some 300 cancer-stricken patients, and provides their families with insurance advocacy, social services, and medical direction – a number of them from Crown Heights and other Lubavitch commnities.
The event has gained the reputation as being an exciting barbecue with delicious entrees, mouth-watering accoutrements, and exciting raffle prizes and entertainment combined for an evening of chessed and inspiration.
Oncologist Dr. Moti Sonnenchine was the emcee, and entertainment was provided by special guest star, Yitzchak Fuchs, who regaled the audience with heart-rending, soulful songs.
A specially produced video, featuring “I Believe in Miracles,” written for RCCS by Yossi Green and sung by Avrohom Fried, was a highlight of the evening, as was a live appearance by a 5 year-old former RCCS patient and her father.
To the enjoyment of all, Nachum Segal of The Nachum Segal Show broadcast his evening radio show live from the event.
The evening was dedicated to the memory of Bella Weiss OBM, as well as to Tzipora Faiga Gelb OBM, and in merit of Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin.
