Crown Heights will soon be holding an important election to add a third Rov to the current Bais Din of two, but a potential candidate is nowhere to be found in the Brooklyn neighborhood.
Rabbi Levi Garelik, who received the highest voters approval in a COLlive.com online poll, is spending time in Brussels, the capital of the European Union, supervising the construction of a men’s mikvah.
Garelik divides his time between Crown Heights and Belgium where he is the Rabbi of “Kehillas Hashluchim in the European Union” – a community of the Jewish organizations and institutions in the European Quarter of Brussels, led by his energetic brother Rabbi Moshe Garelik.
The mikvah being built will serve the local shluchim, students of the “Yeshivah of Europe,” and the kollel avreichim of the “European Institute of Jewish Higher Studies.”
Also involved in the building is the mikvah expert Rabbi Gershon Grossbaum of Minnesota and the young Rabbi Mendel Wishedski, director of the the Kehillah.
Born on Shlichus in Italy, Garelik was ordained in Yore and Yadin (Dayanut) from 770 Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Yisroel Piekarski OBM and has Shimush from Rabbi Yehuda Kalman Marlow OBM.
The deadline for rabbis to submit candidacy was Friday, August 6. The election date is September 5, 2010. Rabbi Garelik has made it clear a month ago that he will not be running.
But that didn’t stop COLlive readers from giving him 28% of the vote in the July poll, ahead of Rabbi Moshe Bogomilsky (18%), and Rabbis Yitzchak Zirkind and Yosef Yitzchak Jacobson (who both got 11%).
The list of candidates will be publicized Monday night.
A member of the election committee told COLlive.com Garelik’s name is not on the list.
it is very low to spit your anger on this forum- no one listens when we can immediately see the author is immature and certainly not menchlich. anyone using this forum to spread lashon horah- think twice- its chodesh elul and putting in writing bad about another – on the internet is irreversible and unforgivable. just because someone is in the public eye does not give anyone a right to spread negativity about him- true or not is irrelevant.
hes the only 1 who can bring both 2gter
WELL SAID!!!!!!
I will vote for Rabbi Bogomilsky if he says the story of Grand Opening and Garnd Closing again. I think I know it by heart. He got good mileage with that story. I like the fact that he sticks to one story and goes with it and applies it to everything and anything.
Rabbi Garelik’s decision should be respected.
Him and His Incredible Brother Moshe should just run the whole world in my opinion. They are unbelieveable.
Go BRUSSELS!
Vote for the Rav who doesn’t seek it or want it. He is worthy. But I don’t blame Rabbi Garelick – ושנא את הרבנות
Is the best person we have a long distinguished career as a ROV and Toen and Borer and a good speaker and a strong voice….
Mangel is old and tired and is not the right person.
Mangel hates Osdaba
Bogo likes and actually is friendly with Rabbi Schwei for many many years as they worked together in Lubavitcher yeshiva.
As let me tel you something when I came to him for tuition years ago he helped me personally get into Ocean Parkway when my parents had a hard time of paying tuition…
Bogo for Rov!!!!!!
I had an experience with rabbi bogomilsky (and more then once)
he knows a lot how to learn but he is not a MENTSH.
If we want a rabbi with a human touch he is the wrong candidate.
With rabbi garelick shlita out, we are doomed. Who do we have to vote for?
Jacobson is all into relaitionships – if you know what I mean.
Zirkind is a tough man – like his paps.
Bogomilsky doesn’t sing yechi or even say yechi.
Hence I have arrived tot he conclusion: we are doomed. Indeed.
Maybe azkir al hatzion will help. And maybe moshiach will come after alll we are in shnas 770. 4 weeks left. Ad mosai ad mosai ad mosai??? – ZK.
The list is not out yet, we don’t know who the candidates are – but #10 has a diatribe to deliver, so he does.
Rachmono liztzlan.
only in Crown Heights does a 28% approval rating mean you are popular!
I first came to know Rabbi Moshe Bogomilsky more than 25 years ago when I entered first grade under his principalship in ULY. As I have now been in chinuch myself for about 10 years I can now look back and see clearly how poorly he executed his job as menahel ruchni of the elementary school. (He was also the administrator of, which he may have done well, I simply do not know.) I’m am certain I speak for many of my fellow students who remember him as anywhere from incompetent at best to downright abusive at worst. I personally… Read more »
he put rabbi marlow and rabbi osdoba into a siruv!!!!!!!!!
The reason R’ Garelik won the poll is because he has a human touch. VOTE for the Rabbi with the human touch. This is what is missing from our Beis Din.
He probably wisely realizes he can help many more people in a personal manner than being Rov of a community that doesn’t know what it means to respect a Rov. For what does he need that disRespect.
Good examples:
His working relationship with Rabbi Tennenboum at Lubavich Yeshive Ocean Parkway…
His price for managing their buildings….
The famous Din-Torah in Miami…
THE LIST GOES ON AND ON!!
Rabbi Garelik should be convinced to run …
i would also avoid this community
i hope people take this seriously, and learn about the candidates, not just party lines!
rabbi bogomilsky is the only 1 who can bring both toghter. no1 else has that abilty
