Rabbi Adin Even-Israel (Steinsaltz), one of the world’s most respected Jewish scholars, is set to undergo surgery this week, COLlive.com has learned.
It is to take place Tuesday, July 27, at 9 am (Israel time).
“The recovery for this procedure is estimated to be a month or so, and the rabbi’s activities will be limited during this time,” a student notified in an email to COLlive.
The reason for the surgery was not disclosed.
He added that Rabbi Even-Israel asks that all those involved in his work “to continue to do so with great vigor to achieve even greater results.”
The full name to say Tehillim for is Adin ben Rivka Leah.
Rabbi Even-Israel (Steinsaltz), 72 and a Chabad Chossid living in Jerusalem, has recently completed his monumental translation and commentary on Talmud Bavli after 45 years of work.
Hailed by Time magazine as a “once-in-a-millennium scholar” for his innovative commentary and translation of the Talmud into Hebrew and other languages, he received the Israel Prize, the country?s highest honor, in the field of Jewish studies, in 1988.
The rabbi will be terrific and a newer more vibrant rabbi that will only help jews. He will be ready for Rosh Hoshana, Yom Kippur.
